#9 - Laundry Tub

I know, I know - I've got a gourmet kitchen, and a basement I can rollerskate in, and a giant bathtub and hardwood floors and a front porch and yet I pick "laundry tub" as #9?  Yes.  Yes I did.

We actually chose to install the tub in the garage, rather than upstairs in the laundry room.  Fact is, I need a place to dump stinky wet kayaking gear BEFORE it enters the house.  A laundry tub upstairs made no sense to me at all - I would have to take muddy, gross things over the hardwood floors, up the steps, across the new carpet and into the laundry room, all the while, dripping mud and gook and lord knows what.

So in the garage it will stay.

No more will I have paint in my kitchen or bathroom sinks!  No more will I have to soak kayaking gear in my bathtub!  Oh!  Even nasty cat boxes might benefit from the tub!

And so, Laundry Tub, you are my #9.

  3. I didn't know they made the wall-mount utility sink. We're doing the same thing, can you post a picture of the bottom from under? Want to see where the drain is.

    Thanks!

  5. Gregg - I will take a picture next time I'm at the house.

Chelly - it might not be too hard to put one in later if your powder room is near the garage walls.

I just realized I can wash out dirty gardening stuff there too! Love it.

  6. Love the idea of putting one in the garage. We put one in the laundry room, now I want one in the garage. We will need to add this to the "To Do List". Thanks for sharing!!!!

  7. Building a Ravenna -- taking your GREAT idea and putting the laundry tub in our garage, but what wall did you put this on? Our SR says right on the other side of the powder room by the garage door itself, but I didn't know if it should be more towards the interior of the house, out of the way and slightly warmer?

  8. Hi MZ: We had our choice of where to place the sink, but chose to put it in the corner next to the powder room. We don't have a door on the garage, so this corner seemed like the most ideal location, sort of out of the way of everything else. They wouldn't warranty it for us though, because should we forget to turn the water off in the winter, it could break. The shut-off valves are in the basement right underneath the powder room.

I did wash stinky kayak gear in it last weekend, and I was so happy we had spent the money to put the sink there!! I'll be interested to see what you decide.

  9. Bummer on the warranty..I'll have to ask, although I'm sure it'll be the same answer. Last question, sorry...Do you know about how much room there is when you pull your car in (if you do) on the side? thanks RR.

  10. When I pull my car in?! HA! Maybe in the spring when we have the kayaks hung, the bikes on racks and all the boxes away...

But, the sink won't interfere with us pulling our cars in - the steps stick out further than the sink. I'll take a picture for you and post it soon.
